Chemical Weapons Convention goes into force
On April 29, 1997, the
Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction
went into force. The Convention prohibits members nations from creating and deploying chemical weapons, and is overseen by the
Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
